Car 'full of drunk young men' crashes through fence

A car full of ‘drunk and disorderly’ young men crashed through a fence and into the garden of a horrified Wiltshire homeowner.

The woman, who lives in Clay Street, Crockerton, said she saw them "stood up in the sunroof, drinking, beeping their horns and with music blaring" as they sped along the road to Shearwater Lake in Warminster between 8pm and 8.30pm.

On their return about half an hour later the driver lost control of the silver 1.4 Toyota Yaris and crashed it through a wooden picket fence before hitting a wall.

The three occupants of the car were seen walking down the road laughing with beer cans in their hands after the crash.

The woman, aged 58 said: "The went through the fence, over a rockery, through the potato and broad bean patch, and only just missed the greenhouse and a telegraph pole."

She added: "The problem is youngsters meeting up at Shearwater and then racing back down Clay Street.

"This road only has a 30mph speed limit but the police don't have the resources to come down and sort it out.

"Speeding in this village is dreadful, cars often race down the road, someone will get killed soon but the police won't do anything, people that are drunk are driving a killing machine.

"If they had hit the telegraph pole and been injured, there would have been consequences but they didn't, so there were no consequences. Until somebody gets killed, nothing will happen."

"The traffic has slowed down this morning because everyone is rubber-necking."

Wiltshire Police and the fire service were called out on Monday evening to make the area safe as petrol was leaking from the crashed vehicle.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We responded to reports that a car had crashed into a fence on Clay Street, Crockerton, near Warminster, at around 9pm on Monday, June 5.

"Three people are believed to have decamped from the vehicle.

"Officers were supported by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to make the area safe.

"We are continuing our investigation.
