Suspected teenage drug dealer arrested after 'jumping over garden fence' to avoid police in Wallsend

Northumbria Police recovered cocaine and cannabis after arresting a suspected teenage drug dealer in Wallsend.

Northumbria Police arrested a suspected teenage drug dealer following a short chase in Wallsend on Wednesday.

The boy, 16, was arrested after police officers spotted him on a scooter in the Willington Quay area and found his behaviour suspicious. Officers made the decision to conduct a stop-and-search, but before this could happen the teenager made a run for it - even jumping over a garden fence.

However officers were able to detain the boy. After a search, ten bags of cocaine and two of cannabis were recovered. The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in police custody.

Chief Inspector Phil Mcconville said: "This arrest is a perfect example of the results which can be achieved by proactive patrols.

Not only were officers in the right place at the right time to spot the male, but they trusted their instincts which told them to search him – and this decision paid off."

Ch Insp Mcconville added that officers would continue to do whatever possible to remove drugs from communities and improve safety. He said: "We rely on information from the public to form a picture of what is happening in our neighbourhoods, so if you’ve any concerns around drug supply, motorcycle disorder, or anything else, please get in touch with us."
