The Easiest Way to Install a Tile Backsplash? Use an Adhesive Mat

Want a gorgeous backsplash for your kitchen or bathroom but feel you don't have the time or energy to install one? DIY couple @nikandliv.diy has an easy and time-saving fix.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma pair — who have renovated two fixer-uppers and are currently renovating Liv's childhood home — have amassed a social media following for posting easy-to-follow tutorials. Now, they’re here to help you DIY a backsplash (and to get rid of your popcorn ceiling.)

Noting that "laying tile the old-fashioned way is way more trouble than it's worth," Nate and Liv recommend using Musselbound, a double-sided adhesive mat that is super strong and replaces messy mortar.

With this hack, Liz — who, at the time, was 30 weeks pregnant with the couple's son, Beckett — was able to install a kitchen backsplash in the couple's 2nd fixer-upper in just 6 hours start-to-finish.

Here are step-by-step instructions:

Supplies:

-MusselBound

-Tiles

-Spacers (if not included)

-Grout

1. Stick MusselBound to dry wall.

2. Add spacer to space out tiles.

3. Stick tiles to MusselBound.

"Once you stick the tile up, you don't have to worry about it sliding," they say.

4. Grout over the tiles.
