6 ways to upgrade your flooring without removing tiles

The flooring plays an important role in determining the overall look and feel of the home. With a variety a materials on offer, one can easily renew the look of the pre-existing flooring of a rented apartment or opt for materials which do not require removal of the existing floor tiles especially if the homeowners are living in the same home. Here are 6 ways to add more personality and give a makeover to the flooring of your home.

Vinyl flooring is available in the form of luxury vinyl flooring and traditional vinyl flooring. This is waterproof, has a soft underfoot and can be installed on the existing floor tiles. These are also available in different colours, patterns and designs which simulate the look of wood or natural stone. However it is not advisable to use vinyl flooring in the outdoors or in the indoor areas which are exposed to a lot of sunlight because vinyl has the tendency to fade in the presence of UV light. You can also use simple peel and stick vinyl tile stickers to refresh the look of the flooring.

A strategic placement of furniture, rugs and carpets can instantly upgrade the look of the flooring and is one of the best options for a rented apartment. Consider carpet tiles for the children's bedroom where you can mix-and-match different colours and designs to create interesting patterns. Note that nowadays a large variety of antimicrobial carpets are available in the market which do not allow the growth of fungi, bacteria and dust mites in the fibres of the carpet.

Laminated wooden flooring resembles the look of natural wood and is manufactured by fusing multiple layers of synthetic materials and a top layer of laminate finish. This flooring is light in weight, easy to maintain, is available in a variety of colours and is a great way to add an element of warmth into the interiors of the home. One drawback of using laminated wooden flooring is that it tends to disintegrate in the presence of excess moisture and the top layer may fade or wear off over a period of time.
